Classification of Students
Undergraduates
- Freshman: 0 - 29 semester hours earned
- Sophomore: 30 - 59 semester hours earned
- Junior: 60 - 89 semester hours earned
- Senior: 90 + semester hours earned
Remedial credits (courses numbered 000-099) do not count toward student level.
Non-Degree Students
Guest Students
Guest students may enroll in courses on a space-available basis and should refer to the Non-Degree Students section of this catalog for admission requirements. All guest students must be advised and may enroll no earlier than one week before the term begins.
Guest Student – No Credit
The guest student (no credit) category is reserved for applicants who wish to enroll in courses without degree-seeking status. A guest (no credit) student may enroll in a maximum of 6 hours per term. In place of a grade for each course, students receive the symbol AU (no credit) posted on transcript for guest courses. Extended Studies, CSU Online, and Independent Studies courses cannot be taken for "no credit".
An auditor is defined as a student who has been permitted to enroll in a course for which he or she will receive no credit. Auditors determine their own attendance, take no examinations, receive no grades, do not participate in classroom discussion except as permitted by the instructor and earn no credit. They pay the same tuition and fees as persons enrolled for credit. An auditor may not be reclassified to receive credit in the course after the drop period of the course has passed. In place of a grade, students receive the symbol NC (no credit) on their transcripts. Students wishing to register as auditors must declare their intention at registration and may not seek credit in the course after the drop period for the course has expired. Likewise, a student may not change his or her regular enrollment to auditor (no credit) status after the end of the drop period. Auditor (or no credit) forms are available in the Office of Admissions.
Guest Student – For Credit (Undergraduate)
The guest student (for credit) category is reserved for applicants who wish to enroll in undergraduate courses without degree-seeking status. A guest (for credit) student may enroll in a maximum of 15 hours per term. A total of 30 semester hours may be earned while classified as a guest student (for credit). A guest student (for credit) who wishes to exceed the 30-semester hour maximum must formally apply for admission to a degree program. A guest student (for credit) must maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average.
Guest Student – For Credit (Graduate)
The graduate guest student (for credit) category is reserved for applicants who wish to enroll in graduate (500+) level courses without degree-seeking status. Graduate guest (for credit) students are limited to earning a maximum of 12 credit hours (or 27 credit hours for School of Education) of graduate credit while classified as a non-degree student. A student who wishes to exceed the maximum number of credit hours permitted must seek approval of the Graduate Studies Board, or formally apply to a graduate program. Guest students must seek the approval of the individual graduate program director/coordinator to enroll in any graduate-level courses that are part of a graduate program curriculum.
Guest Student -Senior Citizen
The guest student (senior citizen) category is reserved for applicants 65 years and older (or 62 years and retired) who wish to audit courses, tuition-free, without earning credit. Mandatory course fees may apply, and permission of the instructor is required. In place of a grade, senior-citizen guests receive the symbol AU (no credit) posted on transcript for guest courses. Extended Studies, CSU Online, and Independent Studies courses cannot be audited.
Guest Student –Military Veterans No Credit
Pursuant to the passage of House Bill 22-1407, any United States Military veteran who wishes to audit courses, tuition free without earning credit may do so at CSU Pueblo. A veteran student may audit up to 9 credit hours per term. Once enrolled as a veteran non-degree-seeking not-for-credit student, the student may not change any course to a for-credit model at any time during or after the course takes place. Mandatory course fees may apply. Permission of the instructor is required. In place of a grade, military and veteran guests receive the symbol AU (no credit) posted on transcript for guest courses. Veteran students wishing to utilize this program must apply for admission as a Non-Degree Seeking student and either provide their DD-214 form or visit the CSU Pueblo Military Veterans Success Center, OSC Rm 114, to confirm veteran status. Extended Studies, CSU Online ,and Independent Studies courses cannot be audited. For more information contact the Military and Veteran Success Center.
Guest Student – For Credit (National Student Exchange)
National Student Exchange students are considered non-degree-seeking students while participating in a study abroad program. Applicants interested in applying for National Student Exchange must first arrange acceptance into this program with the NSE coordinator. High School Programs
Students enrolled in Concurrent Enrollment (CE), including ASCENT and TREP, and Senior to Sophomore programs may simultaneously earn high school and college credit. Students must be approved by their high school personnel to participate in these programs. Homeschooled students are eligible to participate in CE. Students are eligible to register one week after course registration for the term begins and must fill out a registration form specific to their program with High School Programs staff. Students are not eligible for financial aid. Additional information about these programs is available in the High School Programs section of this catalog.
Independent Study Third-Party Students
Students may enroll in Independent Study courses via a third-party provider for college credit to be transferred to their home institution. Students must register through the Electronic Independent Study Registration Form and select their provider. Students work with their provider to arrange for tuition payment and are not eligible for financial aid.
Justice Involved Students
Justice Involved Students who are incarcerated, non-degree seeking students may register for print-based Independent Study courses using the Independent Study Registration Form. Non-degree justice involved students are not eligible for financial aid but may be eligible for veterans’ benefits on a case by case basis.
Teacher Education Program (TEP)
Students in enrolled in TEP courses may opt for Guest Student status via an approved educational partner (“Provider”) to earn college credit for professional development or recertification purposes. TEP students may apply up to 18 credits of TEP ED 501 courses toward the Master in Education, after acceptance into the program. TEP students must register with both their selected Provider and the appropriate TEP Registration Form. TEP students are not eligible for financial aid.
Career & Professional Enhancement (CPE)
Extended Studies offers a variety of CPE non-credit professional development and university credit courses. Students enrolled in CPE courses must register using the Short Courses and Conferences Registration Form and are not eligible for financial aid.
