Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will formulate a community impact statement that outlines the community problem they seek to address, the organizations and other contacts they seek to work with, as well as an overview of the work they seek to complete through their certificate studies.
- Students will leverage a shadowship experience with a local community-based organization to identify: a. personal skills they will develop and strengthen toward their community impact work. b. the measurable impact they seek to make in their community.
- Students will apply effective research strategies in developing solutions to community problems.
- Students will design and complete a group project with a measurable community impact \\nmanage the dynamics of teamwork throughout completion.
- Students will create a durable product (e.g., report, handbook, presentation, marketing materials, etc.) that supports the sustainability to their community impact work.
Outcomes Assessment Activities
- Students will maintain a Community Impact portfolio throughout their Certificate studies.\\nThe portfolio will be assessed at the conclusion of the Certificate introductory/planning course for satisfactory completion of SLO1.
- The portfolio will be assessed at the conclusion of the Certificate shadowship course for satisfactory completion of SLO2.
- The portfolio will be assessed at the conclusion of the Certificate research course for satisfactory completion of SLO3.
- The portfolio will be assessed at the conclusion of the Certificate teamwork course for satisfactory completion of SLO4.
- The portfolio will be assessed at the conclusion of the Certificate capstone course for satisfactory completion of SLO5 and mastery of all SLOs.
Specific Program Requirements
The Certificate in Community Impact provides a meaningful and manageable curriculum of study for students who seek a community impact in their collegiate work, including current students in Honors and/or Leadership minors.
Please note: Students must earn a C or better in all required coursework.

Specific Graduation Requirements
Throughout their studies, students completing this certificate maintain a portfolio of work that meets the Student Learning Outcomes for Community Impact.
A final portfolio presentation, review, and approval of the Center for Honors and Leadership is required to earn a final grade in the select Capstone Course.
