Museum Studies Minor
The minor in museum studies offers students the foundational skills and knowledge required for museum work and for graduate study in related areas. The minor includes museum internships and courses from a breadth of fields that are relevant to various aspects of museum work from marketing to curating. The minor is designed to complement a variety of major areas of study including Art, Art History, Education, History, Media Communication, and Anthropology.
Student Learning Outcomes
- History and Theory—The ability to analyze historical, political, social, financial, cultural, and ethical factors that affect museum operations.
- Collections—A foundational understanding of collection care, acquisition, repatriation, and deaccession.
- Employment—Awareness of the various tasks and roles that museum workers perform, and of the major issues within museum employment.
- Experience—Foundational skills required for a variety of tasks performed within a museum, gallery, library, or archive environment.
