Nursing 3+2: Direct Entry Nursing Leadership Concentration, Master of Science
Specific Admission Requirements
Admission to this concentration is competitive, with eligibility based on the following criteria:
1. Students must first enroll in the Pre-Nursing Concentration within the Health and Exercise Science Nursing Concentration (HES), the Nutrition Science Nursing Concentration (FSHN), or the Human Development and Family Studies Nursing Concentration (HDFS) at CSU Fort Collins.
2. Complete the first three semesters of the Pre-Nursing Concentration as outlined in the program of study, including the completion of 24 credits of specific nursing prerequisites(*) with a grade C or better by the application deadline of January 1st.
- HDFS 101: Lifespan Development (3 credits)
- CO 150: College Composition (GT-CO2) (3 credits)
- CHEM 107/108: Fundamentals of Chem/Lab* (GT-SC2) (5 credits)
- SPCM 200: Public Speaking (3 credits)
- STAT 201: General Statistics* (GT-MA1) (3 credits) OR
- STAT 301: Introduction to Applied Statistical Methods* (3 credits)
- BMS 300: Principles of Human Physiology* (4 credits) OR
- HES 300: Physiology for Clinical Health Professions* (4 credits)
- HES 145: Health & Wellness for Everyone (3 credits) OR
- FSHN 115: Heath Equity (3 credits)
3. At the end of the third semester, students who have successfully completed the required nursing prerequisites in the first three semesters(*) with a grade of C or better may apply for conditional admission to Nursing 3+2: Direct Entry Nursing Leadership Concentration, Master of Science program, offered on the Fort Collins campus in partnership with CSU Pueblo’s School of Nursing, to continue into the Nursing Concentration. Application deadline January 1st.
4. Once admitted into the Nursing 3+2: Direct Entry Nursing Leadership Concentration, Master of Science, students must complete the following common MS prerequisite courses (below) with a grade of C or better by the end of semester 5 to continue in the MS program in semester 6. Students who do not achieve a grade of C or better will be required to retake the courses, resulting in a one-year delay in entry to the MS program.
- LIFE 205: Microbial Biology AND
- Life 206: Microbial Biology Lab (5 credits)
- BMS 301: Human Gross Anatomy (5 credits)
- HES 390: Pathophysiology* (3 credits)
5. Failure to meet these requirements may result in the loss of admission to the MS program. In this case, students can either retake or complete the necessary prerequisites and join the next MS cohort (typically delaying entry by one year) or return to the Pre-Nursing Concentration to complete their BS degree and apply to accelerated BSN programs.

For Admission, Students Must:
- Complete application to the nursing program
- Provide Letters of Recommendation
- Three letters of recommendation must be submitted from the following areas:
- Professional
- Academic
- Other
- Three letters of recommendation must be submitted from the following areas:
- Submit Letter of Intent
- The letter must include a brief history of self, reason for pursuing the degree, and plan of how the applicant will manage the program course load.
- Curriculum Vitae
- Candidates must submit a CV in the University-Approved template.
- Students are responsible for following all admission policies and procedures as outlined in the Graduate Programs section of the University catalog.
Post Acceptance Requirements:
Before a student starts the nursing program they must attend a mandatory orientation. The following must be submitted through the nursing tracking system after receiving a Net ID number from the University and instructions from the Department of Nursing prior to orientation. Failure to do so by the stated deadline will result in loss of admission status.
- Background check per Colorado Law (House bill 97-1084)
- A urine drug screen
- Current certification in CPR
- Health Care Provider
- C or equivalent
- Current physical examination within the last year and current immunizations including:
- Hepatitis B series,
- TB test or two step if necessary,
- measles,
- mumps,
- rubella,
- influenza,
- covid-19,
- tetanus, and
- varicella and/or titers.
- Proof of current health insurance
- Proof of current nursing student malpractice insurance from organization specified by School of Nursing
Student Learning Outcomes
- Integrate evidence-based practice, ethical decision making and technology into advanced nursing role.
- Utilize interprofessional collaboration to provide safe, quality patient-centered care.
- Formulate Quality Improvement Initiatives that affect delivery of advanced nursing practice and health care services.
Outcomes Assessment Activities
- Eighty percent of graduates will express satisfaction with the program, pass national certification exam the first time, and be employed in role-related professional practice within six months to one year.
- Fifty percent of graduates will complete their program on-time starting from enrollment day one of the first class of their nursing option.
- Eighty percent of employers’ will express satisfaction with graduates’ job performance.

Specific Graduation Requirements
The graduate degree will be granted to candidates who meet all of the University catalog requirements plus the following:
- CSU Pueblo cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
- Only courses taken at CSU Pueblo will be calculated into the cumulative GPA.
- All courses must be passed with a B or better.
Please Note: This program does not meet the requirements for honors at CSU Pueblo.
